Top 4 Mercedes Classic Cars

Classic Trends - May 18, 2021

In the German town of Stuttgart, Mercedes began making cars back in the late 1880s. Since then they have become one of the most recognized luxury car brands in the world. Mercedes sells both luxury and commercial vehicles. Not only are they sought after on today’s market, but they also have become a collector’s item for vintage car enthusiasts. Here are the top four classic Mercedes:

1. 1999 Mercedes CLK AMG GTR

This Mercedes is not something that you’ll likely see on the street every day. This is a road-legal racing car made for speed and style. These are incredibly rare with only 30 of them made. Two of those were prototypes, six were roadsters, and 22 of those were coupes. They could go from these exclusive cars being the world’s most expensive car of 1999 selling for over $1.5 million. When behind the wheel of this Mercedes, you could hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

2. 1955 Mercedes Benz 190SL

This car was created as a replacement for the 300SL which was a very expensive and extravagant car. Mercedes realized that this was less suitable for the market than a comparable, less expensive vehicle. Consumers still wanted the look and feel of the 300SL without the price tag. In order to cut the price of production, some alterations were made including newer lightweight materials and better handling. As an economical substitution, some of the power and speed was forgone to reach a wider market.

3. 1979 Mercedes G-Class

The first that this car was introduced was in 1979 in order to compete with cars like the Jeep Wrangler and the Land Cruiser. Since they have continued to make the G-Wagen (short for Gelandewagen) and it remains incredibly popular as a luxury SUV. It has remained true to its original design and has been used for years as military vehicles, safaris, and even as a monster truck. Today it serves as transportation for the rich and famous.

4. 1930 Mercedes Benz 710 SSK Trossi

This classic car goes back over 90 years. This vintage car was ahead of its time as it had a 7.0-liter supercharged straight-six engine and over 300 horsepower. It was also able to reach a record of 120 mph which was very impressive for 1930. SSK stands for SuperSport Kurz which translates to SuperSport Short because of how the car is on a very short wheelbase. This car was only in production for four years beginning in 1928. This classic sports car is remembered as one of the most highly regarded of its era.
